Encounter God through warm hospitality and inspired worship

Family Worship and St John's Orchestra

Recorder PlayersOur activities with children are currently focused through our local schools and Family Worship on one Sunday per month at 4 o'clock in the afternoon followed by refreshments.

We started this afternoon service back in 2018 to create a more informal service at a time when families could attend - Sunday mornings are dominated by sports activities for older children and the timing of our main service at 9.15 and its eucharistic form is a challenge for families with smaller children.

COVID suspended these services for over two years, but we are now running them again with the emphasis on Family Worship and creating opportunities for children to take part in the service by reading or by playing in St John's Orchestra.

St John's Orchestra is formed of members of the congregation and children from the school music classes. Age and ability are no barrier, and instruments include piano, trumpet, saxophone, guitar, percussion, flutes, recorders, violins etc., etc.!  The orchestra is conducted and coached by David Hazeldine, an experienced local musician, churchwarden and member of the Senior Choir. If you're interested in joining in, please contact him, details on our People page.

The monthly services are timed to enable us to celebrate the milestones of the church year, such as Mothering Sunday, Easter, St John the Baptist Day, Harvest and Christingle. Exact dates are advertised on our websites and facebook pages.

We have a team of helpers who provide the refreshments - why not join them whether you have children or not! Contact Lorna Sykes, details on our People page.
